Barnsley set to receive £5m bid for star defender

Barnsley are set to receive a £5m bid for James Bree from West Bromwich Albion according to a report from HITC Sport.

If there’s one thing that Barnsley have been able to do in recent years, it has been that they have been able to produce top quality defenders from their academy. John Stones was the first in that recent batch as he soon moved to Everton before making his way to Manchester City, becoming an England international on the way. After Stones came Mason Holgate, who ended up being a fantastic replacement for Stones. However he soon followed his fellow academy graduate to Everton.

Now though they have James Bree who has been able to produce great performances even with the jump up to the Sky Bet Championship. And with Barnsley producing defenders that have also been to jump up to the Premier League, several teams have had an interest in signing the 19-year-old.

And it now seems like one team is going to make that interest concrete by making a bid for Bree in the coming days. West Brom head coach Tony Pulis is said to be a big fan of Bree and is about to make a bid worth £5m to make sure he is a Baggie by the end of the month. It will be tough to lure him to the Hawthorns as Barnsley head coach Paul Heckingbottom is keen to keep him in South Yorkshire, but the lights of the Premier League may be just a bit too much to resist for Bree.
