Leeds United sign young midfielder to a one-year deal

Leeds United have this afternoon announced the signing of youngster Clarke Oduor on a one-year deal following his rise through the Whites renowned academy.

Having been signed by the Yorkshire club to a two-year scholarship deal back in 201, Oduor is the 2nd player from that class – following Mallik Wilks – to sign on professional terms with the club.

The 17 year-old has been playing for Leeds United’s Under-18 and Under-23 setups this season, netting once in 13 appearances for the respective outfits.

Leeds United are well-known as having one of the most promising academy’s in the country with several first-team players having come from the youth ranks – most recently the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Lewis Coyle.

Although initially Oduor, who is a ‘versatile midfielder’, has been given just a one-year deal, Leeds have included an optional extension if the club feels progression has been made.

Any first-team oppurtunties this year are going to be extremely limited with the Whites currently sitting in 3rd place and knowing that they will need all the experience they have to continue pushing for an automatic promotion place.

The integration of Ronaldo Vieira into the first-team in his 2nd year with the club is something that Oduor can look up to with optimism – after just one appearance in his first season at Elland Road, Vieira has gone on to play 18 times this season for the Whites, something Oduor will be hoping to emulate.
