Blackburn: French-based duo tell clubs they want to come to Rovers

Sun journalist Alan Nixon has said that two players from France’s Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, Abdoul Ba (RC Lens – Ligue 2) and Dimitri Cavare (Rennes – Ligue 1), have told their clubs that they want to sign for Blackburn Rovers.

However, according to a tweet by Nixon on his Twitter account (below), it seems that whilst the players want to come and play for Blackburn, the hold-up is to do with Rovers’ owners, the Venkys.

The relationship between large swathes of the Blackburn support and owners the Venkys is fraught enough as it is, this stance will not endear the owners to the fans in any way, shape or form.

Blackburn have showed interest in 6ft 7in Mauritainian defender Ba before, having an initial bid rejected back in August, and with the 14-cap international now having said that he wants to come into English football with Blackburn, then you’d think that his arrival, alongside that of Cavare would be more of a formality needing a mere nod and a transfer agreement.

Ba has made seven appearances for Lens this season, with six of these coming in the Ligue 2 competition with the imposing 22-year-old centre-back setting up one assist.

Rennes’ 21-year-old Guadeloupean-born France U-20 international Cavare has been linked by L’Equipe with Blackburn ‘interest’ last week. The right-back hasn’t featured in Ligue 1 competition this season, although he does have two Coupe de la Ligue appearances (117 minutes).

A ruptured cruciate ligament (February 20, 2015 – June 1, 2015) and a non-specified knee injury (August 6, 2015 – March 29, 2016) has seen the youngster miss a huge chunk of game time, but he was active for former side Lens in Ligue 1, playing 20 games (two assists) before the first of his injuries kicked in.

Blackburn currently sit in the last relegation place in the Sky Bet Championship, a point away from safety, face mid-table Birmingham on Saturday in a game where three points would be most welcome.
