Aston Villa look to Germany to sign new winger

Aston Villa have looked over to Germany and are now interested in signing Wolfsburg’s Anton Donker according to a report from German publication Bild.

The 19-year-old winger is one of the highest rated young players in Germany right now, though he is yet to make his debut for the senior Wolfsburg side. Instead he has been impressive for their reserve side who compete in the fourth division of German football and that has attracted plenty of attention with Aston Villa being one of those teams.

With Villa currently lacking top quality wingers, Albert Adomah is the best recognised wide man on the squad, their head coach Steve Bruce is looking to address that in the current transfer window and is looking to do that with youth. Earlier today they were linked with a move for another 19-year-old as they track Burnley’s Josh Ginnelly and now they are looking abroad to see who else they could sign.

Villa are hoping to persuade Donker that he will get into the first team quicker should he move to England and will no longer be toiling in the lower leagues of Germany. The fact Aston Villa will be hoping to get promoted to the Premier League, despite a disappointing start to the season, will also be used as a persuasive technique to get Donker to switch sides. However teams in Germany do have a better record at bringing youngsters through than teams in England and that could end up making sure that he will be staying in Lower Saxony.
