Poor results see Philippe Montanier sacked by Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have parted company with head coach Philippe Montanier. Today’s 0-0 draw at Birmingham City leaves the club without a win in eight and just three points above the relegation zone.

A statement released on the official club website late on Saturday night says that ‘following a series of disappointing results this season and given the current position in the league table’ as the reasons for making a change. Gary Brazil has been installed as caretaker manager whilst a search for a new permanent boss commences.

The Frenchman, who has previously managed Rennes and Real Sociedad, has taken charge of 30 matches at the helm, winning nine, drawing six and suffering 15 defeats. His 50% defeat ratio as boss of the two-time European Cup champions has cost him his job.

This week has been a turbulent one for the proud City Ground club, with a proposed takeover bid falling through. The American consortium that was in talks to buy the football club was headed by John Jay Moores, with an 80% stake being proposed. Moores is still believed to be in the country but has not spoken to the club sine news broke that the takeover bid was ended. Negotiations began in October, but current owner Fawaz al Hasawi stated on Friday that the deal was off, leading to angry protests from supporters. Fans chanted ‘Fawaz out’ at the match on Saturday.

Former Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett has been touted as a favourite for the role, even as early as a few weeks ago, when Montanier was still in the job. Despite reports in the Nottingham Post earlier this week that Rowett would not want the job whilst Fawaz al Hasawi is the owner, he still could be tempted or swayed to take on the role. Others are likely to be linked to the job in the coming days. Forest face Bristol City at home next Saturday.
