DONE DEAL: Sheffield Wednesday get their man

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the signing of striker Sam Winnall, who joins the club from fellow Sky Bet Championship rivals Barnsley.

Winnall joins the Owls for an undisclosed fee, and has signed a deal which will keep him at the club until 2020.

He joined Barnsley from Scunthorpe in 2014, but his contract was due to run out in the summer.

The Sky Bet Championship’s sixth top scorer has notched 11 goals in the league this season, which contributed to his total of 48 goals during his time with the Tykes.

The striker has been allocated the number 11 shirt at Hillsborough, and will be eligible for Wednesday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture at home to Huddersfield Town tomorrow.

Speaking on the club’s site Winnall stated he was thrilled to get the deal done so early.

“It was fantastic to hear that a club of Sheffield Wednesday’s size were after me, and as soon as I heard that, I wanted to come over and get things sorted,” said the former Barnsley man.

“It’s a massive club. They’re so well supported. It’s a club that’s aiming to get in the Premier League, and that is where I want to be.”

Sam Winnall was quick to take to Twitter after the move, stating his excitement at making the move across Yorkshire.
