Cardiff, Brentford and Fulham interested in Arsenal striker

A trio of Championship clubs are interested in signing Arsenal’s Chuba Akpom on loan, according to The Times.

The 21-year-old is highly-rated by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger and progressed through the youth system of the Premier League side, having joined Arsenal at six years old. He made his professional debut in 2013 in a 3-1 victory over Sunderland, coming on as a late substitute for Olivier Giroud.

Following various brief loan spells around the Football League, Akpom joined Hull City on a season-long loan last term to gain some much needed first-team experience. The forward made 35 Championship appearances for the Tigers in their promotion campaign but bagged just three league goals. Although, he did score a hat-trick in a FA Cup fixture at Bury.

This season, the England U21 international has made just one appearance. Akpom played 83 minutes in a 4-0 trashing of Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. The striker needs game time to further his development and a number of Championship clubs are wanting to secure the services of the youngster with Brentford, Cardiff City and Fulham all leading the way to make the loan deal.

Akpom would be a familiar name at Griffin Park, having spent a briefly spent a loan spell there in his debut season. The striker played four League One games for the Bees before moving to Coventry City.

The youngster would bring a season of Championship experience to the trio of clubs after winning promotion with Hull last term. Akpom played in the play-off semi-final win against Derby County and was part of the match day squad in Wembley’s play-off final.
