Aston Villa among clubs tracking Leicester winger

Aston Villa are said to be interesting in bringing Leicester City’s Jeffrey Schlupp to Villa Park.

However, a report from the Birmingham Mail suggests that they will face stiff competition for his signature, as the 24-year-old is also being chased by a number of Premier League clubs.

Top flight strugglers Crystal Palace have reportedly already had an offer rejected for Schlupp, who is equally as comfortable playing at full back as he is further forward, and it remains to be seen whether or not the Villains will join the bidding in the coming days.

Head coach Steve Bruce is known to be looking at boosting his defensive options this month, as injuries to players such as Micah Richards and Richie De Laet have left his resources stretched.

Schlupp is a product of the Foxes’ youth academy, and made his competitive debut in 2011 in a League Cup fixture against Rotherham United, where he scored a hat-trick.

Since then he has become a key member of the Leicester side, having made over 120 appearances in a blue shirt.

He was, of course, a member of the Premier League winning side that shocked the sporting world last year and became only the sixth different club to win the league since its inception in 1992.

Schlupp is also a regular member of the Ghana national team, having represented his country thirteen times since 2011.

Villa travel to Molineux to take on Wolves this weekend, as they look to return to winning ways following last week’s Emirates FA Cup exit at the hands of Premier League Tottenham.
