Sheffield Wednesday outcast set for move to Romania

Sheffield Wednesday’s Claude Dielna is the subject of an approach from Dinamo Bucharest according to a report from Portail SFR.

The Owls signed the 29-year-old defender back in 2014 and he managed to break into the first team, usually being used as a left back. He became a cult favourite for the club after he scored a stunning 93rd minute against Blackburn Rovers but he would soon find himself out of the first team. Dielna was the victim of circumstance as after the takeover by Dejphon Chansiri many new players were signed, forcing the Frenchman down the pecking order. A serious injury also affected his chances of getting back into the first team.

This meant that Dielna, who is actually the cousin of former Bournemouth defender Stephane Zubar, ended up being loaned out to Serbian side Slovan Bratislava for the season. But with his three-year deal at Wednesday set to expire this summer and his release being almost certain, he is having to think about the future and his new club may already be waiting for him.

Clubs from outside England can start talks with any player that is out of contract in the next six months and that is exactly what Romanian team Dinamo Bucharest is doing with Dielna. The general manager at Dinamo is former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu and he has been a fan of the defender ever since he played with him at AC Ajaccio back in the 2013/14 season. And now they could be set to reunite after an approach was made for Dielna and talks have begun on a new contract.
