Ex-Eredivisie star released by Championship strugglers

Sky Bet Championship strugglers Cardiff City have confirmed that forward Lex Immers has had his contract terminated with immediate effect. Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock says the decision was made as the player simply ‘has not been in my plans’ since his appointment as manager.

A brief statement was released on the official club website earlier today, where the club announced the news and also wished to thank the 30-year-old for his efforts at the Cardiff City Stadium. After impressing in a loan spell under previous manager Russell Slade, the deal was made permanent over the summer by then-manager Paul Trollope.

He has barely featured since Warnock took charge, and in total played just 13 times this season, most coming as a substitute. Speaking to Wales Online, Warnock said it was a move which suited everyone concerned at this moment in time,

“Lex Immers has left the club by mutual agreement. He has not been in my plans since I’ve been here in fairness.

“He’s got a lot on his plate, he’s having a baby, so this suits both parties. It frees up a wage, he can go and enjoy himself for a time back home. We wish him well.

“There’s been no trouble with him, he’s just not been able to find the form he had when he first came. I’m just trying to thin it down, get a more sustainable squad.”

This comes on the day that Warnock was reunited with Greg Halford, after he signed from Rotherham United for an undisclosed fee. The pair worked together whilst at the Millers last season as they avoided relegation against all the odds.
