Premier League giants Manchester United are set to recall Cameron Borthwick-Jackson from his loan spell at Wolves, according to the Telegraph.
Manager Jose Mourinho has been unhappy with the treatment of the young defender and it’s believed this could be why Man United rejected a bid from Wolves for Sam Johnstone, who today joined fellow West Midlands club Aston Villa on loan.
Wolves paid a large fee and high wages to sign the left-back in the Summer but he has only managed six appearances in his time at the club so far. The youngster has found himself even more exiled under new boss Paul Lambert.
Any recall from Manchester United has to be agreed by his loan club but the Red Devils are hopeful that Wolves will agree to this.
The player did well at Old Trafford last season, making 14 appearances under old boss Louis Van Gaal. It’s well-known that Mourinho is an admirer of the defender but was keen for him to play regularly with a view of going into the first team next season and has therefore been frustrated with the going-ons of Borthwick-Jackson’s loan.
Speaking to FourFourTwo last month Borthwick-Jackson said “He’s (Mourinho) always keeping eyes on me and he has people watching. When I first came into pre-season I got injured early on, and as I recovered he asked me how I was and things like that. When I came back he said: ‘the squad’s a bit too big but I see a future for you here’ and that I’m a ‘top player’. He told me to go out and get some experience.”
It’s clear that this loan spell hasn’t worked out and whether United will choose to loan Borthwick-Jackson elsewhere for the rest of the season is yet to be seen.
