Former Manchester United playmaker starts training with Wigan Athletic

Lazio’s Ravel Morrison has started training with Wigan Athletic according to a report from Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder was once regarded as one of the best prospects in the country when he was at the Manchester United academy but the giants decided to sell him before the end of his contract due to concerns about his attitude. At West Ham United he showed glimpses of the talent that many saw in him, but after several loan spells away from East London, Lazio snapped him up through the Bosman ruling.

However his move to Rome hasn’t gone as planned and he hasn’t made an appearance for them all season with one of their coaches Stefano Pioli criticising Morrison in the press for his lack of effort in training and the fact he hadn’t learnt to speak Italian yet. This opened a door to a potential move away from Stadio Olimpico and now he is training at Wigan over a potential move to the far more romantic setting of Lancashire.

The recently appointed head coach of Wigan Warren Joyce knows Morrison well as he was the one who coached him as a youngster at Manchester United. With the playmaker going back to a man who knows him very well from his academy days, there is hope that he could finally realise the potential that so far has been squandered. And if Wigan manage to maximise that potential, they could have a potentially league altering player on their hands which would help them get away from the relegation zone.
