QPR launch shock bid to sign former Wigan Athletic favourite

QPR have launched a shock attempt to try and sign Akhisar Belediyespor’s Hugo Rodallega according to a report from Get West London.

With the R’s currently struggling in the Sky Bet Championship, new head coach Ian Holloway has made no secret of the fact that he intends to change the squad during the January transfer window. Yesterday it was reported that they were going to try and sign Kazenga LuaLua on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion but now it has become apparent that they are looking to make a shock move for a player that will be very familiar to some fans in England.

Rodallega is best known in this country for his exploits with former club Wigan Athletic, where he remains a fan favourite. He signed for the Latics in 2009 and would go on to score 24 goals for the club, making him the team’s highest goalscorer in the Premier League. However in 2012 he left Wigan after his contract expired and moved to Fulham, though he was unable to stop them from being relegated from the Premier League. Since 2015 though he has been playing in Turkey for Akhisar Belediyespor.

However QPR could be set to give him a chance to return to these shores. One of QPR’s main problems this year has been their inability to score goals with the likes of Sebastien Polter and Conor Washington struggling to find the back of the net. With Rodallega’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, QPR sense they could get someone who has lit up the English leagues before for a bargain.
