Rafa Benitez looking to bring Chelsea youngster to St James’ Park

According to reports, Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is keen to bring Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek to Tyneside on loan for the remainder of this season.

The Championship club currently sit in second place in the league but indifferent form over the Christmas period after the recent loss of Jonjo Shelvey to suspension has highlighted a lack of depth in the centre of midfield at the club.

Magpies boss Rafa Benitez wants to move swiftly in the January transfer window to strengthen his squad in this department and has lined up a trio of targets that could make the move up north.

The Chronicle are reporting, that with the mid-season transfer window now open the club are still waiting to hear back on bids the club has made for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the Chelsea playmaker, and Tom Cleverley, the former England midfielder who Rafa Benitez wants to take on loan.

Reports suggest that Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph is also interesting Newcastle United and Benitez however even despite his lack of playing time with the Manchester giants his transfer to the club is far less likely.

An offer for Ruben Loftus-Cheek would see him move on loan to St James’ Park for the rest of the season, a transfer that would be a suitable move for the player himself and for both clubs as Chelsea are keen for the 20-year-old to gain more first team experience.

Under new  boss Antonio Conte, Loftus-Cheek has only made three appearances for the London side this term.

The clubs loan move for Tom Cleverly looks likely to be completed in the next few days but Rafa could look at bringing in an additional central midfielder as further back up.
