Cardiff line up £500,000 move for Scottish Premiership winger

The Daily Record understands that Championship side Cardiff City are willing to part way with £500,000 in a bid to try and sign Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes. The Irishman still has 18-months remaining on his Pittodrie contract but Neil Warnock is hoping to lure him back into the English game in the transfer window.

The 29-year-old has scored six goals this season, including a strike in September’s home victory against Rangers, and he too has netted in the Europa League qualification match versus NK Maribor in July as well. He has become an integral member of Derek McInnes’ squad but could be tempted by a move back south of the border.

Hayes has become of the most consistent Ladbrokes Premiership players in recent seasons and Aberdeen will fight tooth and nail to try and keep him at the club. However, if the player expresses a desire to move on, then they’ll be sure to receive the best possible deal for the football club in relation to a decent-sized transfer fee. Whilst he has already held initial discussions about potentially extending his stay, the money clubs in England could offer in comparison may make it hard for him to refuse.

Warnock hasn’t hidden from the fact he is desperate to sign new players to his Bluebirds squad in January. Whilst players are likely to come in, he has warned that others can be expected to make way as well.
