Bignot unveils first signing as Grimsby boss

Grimsby Town manager Marcus Bignot has unveiled his first signing as the Mariners’ boss with the capture of Mansfield Town striker Adi Yussuf on an 18-month deal, according to the club’s official website.

Yussuf worked under current Mariners’ assistant manager Mickey Moore at Field Mill and earlier this season spent time on loan at Crawley Town, scoring twice in 16 league appearances.

“Adi becomes the first signing of Marcus Bignot’s reign as Town manager and will officially become a Grimsby Town player when the transfer window opens on January 1st 2017.

“Yussuf began his career at current Premier League champions Leicester City, progressing through the ranks before earning a professional contract in 2011. Despite failing to make a first team appearance, he enjoyed a loan spell at Tamworth, making 10 appearances and scoring twice.
“Following his release from Leicester, Yussuf signed for Burton Albion following a successful trial, before making the move to local rivals, Lincoln City. Following an injury plagued campaign, Yussuf eventually moved to Oxford City, where he went onto score 27 goals in 39 league games.
“Primarily a striker, Adi spent the early stages of the season on loan at fellow League Two outfit Crawley Town where he played in a number of different positions. In total, he made a total of 23 appearances scoring 4 goals. His loan was then ended for Yussuf to return to Mansfield Town in preparation of his transfer.”
The Zanzibar-born frontman will be eligible for the Mariners’ first game of 2017, away at Carlisle United on Monday 2 January and he will sport the number 27 shirt for the club.
