Sheffield Wednesday’s forgotten man set to depart for Portugal

Sheffield Wednesday’s Filipe Melo could be set to leave the club with three Portuguese clubs interested in signing him according to a report from O Jogo.

When Melo was signed in January 2015 from Moreirense, he was one of the first few players brought into the squad after the takeover of Dejphon Chansiri. His debut was much delayed as the coaching staff at the time wanted him to have time to adjust to the English leagues, and broke into the first team towards the end of that season.

However due to a number of injuries, he hasn’t played for the Owls since the end of the 2014/15 season and with Wednesday being in good form since then, he hasn’t been able to break back into the first team. The South Yorkshire club aren’t willing to cut their losses on the midfielder just yet and are planning to loan him out until the end of the season to give him a chance to prove to the coaching staff that he can still play to the ability they want.

This has attracted plenty of attention from his home country as three Portuguese clubs are now looking to sign Melo until the end of the season. His former club Moreirense are understandably interested in bringing him back to the club while Pacos de Ferreira and Belenenses are also hoping to sign him during the upcoming January transfer window. It seems like it will end up being down to Melo where he will playing until May.
