Grimsby: key striker Bogle offered improved contract

The Grimsby Telegraph is reporting that League Two hotshot Omar Bogle has been offered an improved contract by current club Grimsby Town, amidst a flurry of transfer speculation ahead of the January transfer window.

Bogle has plundered 16 goals already for the Mariners in his first EFL season and has attracted interest from a number of Championship suitors, including Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Wigan, Barnsley and Rotherham.

But the 23-year-old, who joined the Mariners from Solihull Moors in June 2015, has now been offered an improved deal to extend his stay at Blundell Park, with his current contract set to expire at the end of next season.

Bignot, who also managed Bogle at Soilhull, is keen to secure the striker’s services despite the obvious interest from other clubs.

He said: “We are heading towards the January transfer window. Both he and his agent may feel there is an opportunity for Omar Bogle.

“For me, when I first came in I was very keen on giving Omar an improved offer. I think he has deserved improved financial terms.

“Where we are at the moment, myself and John (Fenty, Grimsby Town director) believe he deserves an increase, because he has done bloody marvellous.

“That’s where we are at with that one.”

And Bignot is not too concerned about losing his star striker, even with the transfer window about to swing open.

He continued: “I’ve worked with Omar for a long time and we have been in this situation before. He knows how I work, and like I said, there is a window of opportunity for people.

“We can’t stop that, as I’ve said. We have got to look after our own house, because we can’t do anything about that.

“Nothing surprises me about football, and I’m honestly not even giving it a single thought.

“Obviously, it’s something I can’t control – I can’t stop interest, and there is certainly is that, but there is a long way to go for that to be turned into anything that suits us, Omar and the club.”

Mariners’ fans will be hoping that their fixture with Blackpool on New Year’s Eve isn’t Bogle’s last in a black and white shirt, especially after 35 goals in just 18 months at Blundell Park.
