Aston Villa: Chinese Super League club in Villa striker rumour

Chinese club Shanghai SIPG are looking to bring Aston Villa striker Jordan Ayew to Asia in the January transfer window according to The Sun.

The Chinese side sit third in the Chinese Super League, but current Manager Andre Villas-Boas looks to improve his squad further by signing Ayew.

The former Chelsea and Spurs boss captured the signing of Chelsea midfielder Oscar earlier this month but he is prepared to place an offer.

The 25-year-old striker has not set the Sky Bet Championship alight for Steve Bruce’s Villa side but a move to the Far East could interest the Ghanian international. The Villains sit tenth in the League table, six points behind Sheffield Wednesday in the final play-off spot.

Ayew jets off to play for his country in the African Cup of Nations next month but may not face a return to the United Kingdom if this deal is completed.

The former Marseille and Lyon front-man moved to Villa Park in 2015 but has been more of a super-sub in recent matches – including when he set-up the late winner for Ross McCormack in the 2-1 victory over Burton Albion at Villa Park.

Ayew’s potential new home have no need to worry about Ayew costing too much after splashing £60m on thier latest signing, Oscar from Chelsea. Villa currently value their out-of-touch front-man at £10m which, should the deal be completed, allows Steve Bruce to lodge a bid for Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes.
