Premier League side set to bid for highly rated Derby midfielder

Barclays Premier League side Everton are interested in Derby County midfielder Will Hughes according to The Sun.

Hughes, a product of the Sky Bet Championship side’s academy system, missed the majority of last season through injury but has been highly influential in pushing the Rams up the table and back into the mix for promotion.

The England Under-21 starlet is currently tied to the East Midland’s side until 2018, however the midfielder rejected a new contract offer and is prepared to see what the next 12 months holds.

Hughes has a history of gaining attention from Premier League clubs. Liverpool were interested a few years ago but a frustrating year of injuries ruined any chance of a potential move to Anfield.

The report in The Sun states that the Merseyside team’s boss Ronald Koeman has “earmarked Hughes as a potential target.”

Derby are currently managed by Steve McClaren. The former Nottingham Forest and England boss returned to the Pride Park Stadium in October and his side are on a great run of form.

The Rams are unbeaten in eigh games, winning seven and drawing one, meaning the East Midlands side sit behind Sheffield Wednesday, who occupy the final play-off spot, by four points but with a game in hand.

Derby County host Birmingham City in the Sky Bet Championship later this afternoon.
