Charlton: Everton wrapping up £10 million deal for starlet

According to The Sun, Everton have wrapped up the signing of Ademola Lookman from Charlton Athletic.

The 19-year-old is believed to have completed a deal to join the Premier League next month for a £10 million fee.

Lookman broke into the Addicks team last season as he made his debut in a 1-0 loss at MK Dons in the Championship. He went on to play a further 23 games for Charlton and managed to bag five goals in a disappointing season for the London club, including an important goal in a 2-1 victory over Leeds United.

This term, the forward has become a vital part of the squad and has made 25 appearances. He has also scored seven goals with a highlight being a brace against league-leaders Scunthorpe United.

At a club in crisis, Lookman has managed to become an outstanding performer in difficult circumstances. The youngster has made 49 appearances for Charlton under four different managers as well as becoming capped at England U19 and England U20 level. In the summer, he was named in the European U19 Championship squad.

Charlton’s number seven has been largely been linked with a move away from The Valley. Liverpool and Arsenal have both been monitoring progress but it now appears Ronald Koeman’s side have won the battle.

Lookman will be optimistic of first-team football after Yannick Bolasie’s season ending injury has left a gap of a wideman. Ademola Lookman can also find inspiration in Dominic Calvert-Lewin, a 19-year-old who joined the Toffees in the summer from League One Sheffield United and has broken into Koeman’s squad, making his debut this month in a victory over Arsenal.
