2. Bundesliga side St. Pauli are interested in Sheffield Wednesday striker Atdhe Nuhui, according to German site Bild.
The German outfit are currently sat rock-bottom in the league and are interested in signing the 27-year-old striker to help them avoid the drop.
The tall Austrian striker joined the Owls in 2013 from Europa League team Rapid Wien and scored on his debut- a 2-1 loss to Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road. He went on to score a further seven goals in his debut season, including finding the net during the 6-0 thrashing of Leeds United.
More recently, under Carlos Carvalhal, Nuhiu has struggled for game time and last season was used as a substitute 22 times. Under Stuart Gray, the manager who signed him from the Austrian Bundesliga side, he made a total of 56 starts for the Owls and was a big part of the team.
This season, with the likes of Steven Fletcher as competition, Nuhiu has only started once. In addition, his total of 11 appearances as a subsititute have resulted in zero goals scored. The striker has a poor goal-scoring record at Hillsborough, 24 goals is all the ex-Austrian U21 international has managed in his 153 English football appearances.
St. Pauli, whose captain Soren Gonther is heavily linked with Leeds United, finished fourth in the German second-tier last season but are currently struggling. They are reportedly interested in Wednesday’s striker but, with a contract until 2018, St, Pauli will have to pay decent fee to sign the striker.
Sheffield Wednesday’s next game is a huge clash with league-leaders Newcastle United on Boxing Day.
