Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday interested in Arsenal defender

Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday are battling to sign Arsenal’s Rob Holding on loan according to a report from HITC Sport.

The 21-year-old defender signed for Arsenal this summer for a fee believed to be around £2.5m following Bolton Wanderers relegation to Sky Bet League One. It seemed like he was going to be thrown right into the mix after he started the first few games of their Premier League season but he soon fell out of favour and is now way down the pecking order.

Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger still thinks Holding is a bright prospect for the future but wants him to go out on loan in order to gain more first team experience to help him break back into the Gunners first team. And it seems like he could be heading to Yorkshire as both Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday are interested in the defender. While both of their back fours have performed well this year, both fear that injuries to that area could ruin their recent good form and are looking to extra reinforcements. With Holding showing plenty of form for Bolton in the Sky Bet Championship despite their relegation, both believe that he could replicate that form in the latter half of this season.

But these Yorkshire sides aren’t the only ones who are interested in signing Holding. In the Championship, Aston Villa and Norwich City are also thinking about making a bid while he may not even leave the Premier League as Burnley and Hull City could make moves in January.
