Match Report: Cardiff City stadium hosts festive cracker

With Christmas just one week away, any supporter who was fortunate enough to be at the Cardiff City stadium for yesterday’s thriller will certainly have no complaints about the value for money aspect.

The hosts Cardiff struck the first blow. Sean Morrison meeting a corner in superb fashion to give Neil Warnock’s side the advantage.

Their opponents, Barnsley, didn’t let the early goal affect them and equalised just 16 minutes later. Sam Winnall the scorer as he met a fine cross by Conor Hourihane to head the ball over Ben Amos.

The former Scunthorpe United forward went on to double his, and his sides, advantage just after the half-hour. This time he converted from close range after Sam Morsy did all the hard work, slotting the ball home in calm fashion.

The visitor’s advantage grew even more before half-time, as Josh Scowan extended their lead just two minutes before the end of the half.

Cardiff, who re-entered play a different side, went on to level the scores.

First of all, Peter Whittingham’s half-volley reduced the deficit before Anthony Pilkington, who also scored a late goal against Wolves recently,  thought he had rescued a point for his side. His equaliser, in the 88th minute of play, was turned in after the Barnsley defence failed to clear a goal-mouth scramble.

However, a late breakaway from Barnsley changed the entire outcome.

Substitute, Ryan Williams, slotted home close-range effort in the 95th minute to finish off the move and finally put the game to bed.

Final Score:

Cardiff 3-4 Barnsley.

Attendance:

14,754.
