Liverpool linked with move for Magpies defender

Premier League title hopefuls Liverpool are the latest club to be linked with a move for Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles according to The Shields Gazette.

The 23 year old Derby born defender is enjoying an impressive season with The Magpies and it is thought that the player could receive transfer interest from a number of clubs in the January transfer window.

Lascelles has already been linked with a move to join the Antonio Conte revolution at Chelsea next month and it has now been reported that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is also tracking the highly rated youngster with The Reds believed to have watched the player in action against Birmingham City last weekend.

It is understood that Chelsea may be willing to offer as much as £18 million for the Newcastle United captain and a huge bidding war could now take place between two of English football’s heavyweights.

Lascelles joined The Magpies in August 2014 from Nottingham Forest in a deal which saw the defender loaned back to The Reds for the remainder of the 2014/2015 season. The player made his long awaited debut for Newcastle United last season and Lascelles went on to make 21 appearances for the club in all competitions scoring two goals as the Tynesiders were relegated from the Premier League.

The youngster has admitted that he would love to remain on Tyneside however the offer of potential UEFA Champions League football next season could make the player consider his options further.
