Championship loan watch – Cardiff City

Cardiff City have a number of players on loan elsewhere in the Football League and abroad. I take a look at life away from the Cardiff City Stadium.

Rhys Healey

The forward signed for Cardiff back in 2013 after prolific form for Welsh Premier League outfit Connah’s Quay Nomads earned him a contract at The Bluebirds. Healey, who also had a trial at Manchester United, made his debut for Cardiff City in the Premier League against Chelsea, replacing Craig Bellamy, but hasn’t managed another appearance in blue since arriving. Loan spells at Colchester United and Dundee gave Healey some much needed experience. This season, the Manchester-born forward signed for League Two team Newport County and has been ever present for The Exiles, racking up 18 appearances already and scoring six goals. Still just 22-years-old, the experience will benefit the forward when he returns to Cardiff in January. Healey has recently been linked with a move to Plymouth Argyle after their manager Graham Wesley spoke publicly, much to the annoyance of Neil Warnock.

Tom Adeyemi

After spending last season on loan at Leeds United, the midfielder signed for Yorkshire counterparts Rotherham United on a season-long loan. The Norwich City academy product started the season with consistent appearances but injury in October means that Adeyemi has only played nine times for The Millers. In his last appearance, a 1-0 victory over QPR, he left the field to a standing ovation after being substituted.

Deji Oshilaja

The defender first joined Cardiff City aged 16 and progressed through the academy. In 2015 he enjoyed a loan spell at Wimbledon full of experience and Oshilaja is currently on his third loan spell at Gillingham in League One.    Loan spells in 2015/16 went well for Oshilaja as he played a role in helping The Gills reach the top-half of the third-tier. However, this season his form has dipped and his 22 appearances have not been to the ex-Sheffield Wednesday loanee’s previous standard, with fans calling for him to be left out of the squad.

Adam le Fondre

The Rotherham United legend was signed from Reading two years ago where he was a hero at the Madejski Stadium. However the forward hasn’t shown any superhero powers since leaving The Royals and his struggle in form has continued since he joined Wigan Athletic on loan this season. Eight appearances is all le Fondre has managed this season, with just three of those being starts and scoring just one goal.

Idriss Saadi

Russell Slade signed the unknown striker from Clermont in the French second-tier after a prolific season scoring 18 goals. With just two substitute appearances last season, Saadi was sent on loan to Belgian Pro League side KV Kortrijk. Saadi has been in great form in Belgium and has shown his goalscoring ability once again, with 10 goals in 15 starts for the team owned by Vincent Tan. The Frenchman scored a brace in a 2-1 win over Champions League competitors Club Brugge and bagged goals against Genk and Standard Liege. At 24-years-old and scoring goals, the former French youth international may be a decent asset in the future for Neil Warnock.
