Wolves interested in January move for forgotten Celtic defender

According to OwnGoalNigeria.com, Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers could be signing out of favour Celtic defender Efe Ambrose. Wolves are managed by Paul Lambert, a former Celtic midfield player. Whilst he is keen to move on some of the players in the large squad he inherited, he wants to stamp his own authority on it as well.

Nigerian international Ambrose, aged 28, has not featured for Celtic since their 1-1 draw away to Astana in a Champions League qualification match in July. His only other appearance came a few weeks prior to that, in the embarrassing 1-0 defeat to Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar.

Since signing in 2012, Ambrose has played well over 100 times for the club, but Brendan Rodgers is happy for him to move on.

It is understood that Lambert would like the player to come and train with the club initially, which shouldn’t be a problem considering he is firmly out of Rodgers’ plans at Celtic Park. He remains under contract until the end of the season, where he won’t be offered an extension. Ambrose is able to discuss a move officially elsewhere in January as he enters the final six months of his deal.

A move to China or the United States are other possibilities for Ambrose, but he may be keen to test himself in English football for the first time. The defender is able to play at both centre back and right full back.
