Aston Villa plot January move for Champions League forward

Bulgarian news outlet Sportal understands that Aston Villa are plotting a January move for Ludogorets forward Jonathan Cafu. The 25-year-old joined the current Bulgarian First League champions last summer and has impressed during his short stint at the club.

Cafu has already netted eight goals this season so far, including a strike in the 3-2 defeat to Arsenal in the Champions League earlier this month. Steve Bruce is said to be keen on bolstering his forward options once the transfer window reopens, especially as Albert Adomah will be away on international duty with Ghana at the African Cup of Nations.

Although Bruce remains keen, several other European clubs are said to be monitoring the Brazilian, meaning many more are likely to rival Villa with a bid. Ludogorets forked out a club record fee to lure the player from Sao Paulo in July. It remains to be seen what price the Bulgarian league leaders would be willing to accept. One big stumbling block for Villa is the simple fact that they are no longer a Premier League club, certainly not until next season at the earliest possible opportunity. With top flight clubs likely to be in the running, that could and would put Villa down the pecking order. Owner Dr Tony Xia however should make finances available to try and entice the player that way.

Cafu, who plays at a right winger, is a tricky and skilful offensive player that is known for his goalscoring exploits as well. The video below will give Aston Villa fans a glimpse of the sort of player that could be about to join your club in the coming months.
