Garry Monk expecting tough Yorkshire Derby

Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has told the club website that he expects a tough game against Rotherham United.

After a good run of games which has taken Leeds to 7th place in the Sky Bet Championship, they now have a game against Rotherham which may seem like a gimme. They are currently at the bottom of the table and have only won one game this season, though they are hoping to improve now that they have new head coach Kenny Jackett in place. Monk has a good relationship with Jackett as he was the person who brought him to Swansea City.

However Monk is refusing to take them lightly and much of that could be down to the special status this game has. The match is a Yorkshire derby and will be televised on Sky Sports, meaning there is even more on stake than just three points and Monk is aware that Rotherham are likely to raise their game so they can claim the bragging rights.

He said: “I have great respect for Kenny, he took me to Swansea and was fantastic with me, he is a very good and experienced manager.”

“Rotherham will want the points as much as we want the points, we will need to show our quality, try and dominate to come out on top.”

“We are expecting a very difficult game, it is a derby game and the passion and spirit always comes out from the fans on these occasions and we are preparing for that.”

“We are focusing on ourselves, if we get to the performance level we know we can, we know we will continue win games.”

“This group has a really good mentality, it is important now that we go to Rotherham and show we can react, like we have done in the past.”
