News: Ipswich striker admits poor Forest spell

Nottingham Forest will come up against one of their old boys when they face Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town side.

Forward David McGoldrick, who made 75 appearances for The Tricky Trees, will be on the opposition side on Saturday when Forest visit Portman Road.

The forward, who has been linked with various multi-million-pound moves in recent years, didn’t have a very successful spell at the City Ground. He only scored 9 times in 75 appearances for his boyhood club, who he joined from Southampton for over a million pound.

He has told The Nottingham Post that the reason the move wasn’t successful, was down to him.

“Forest is the club that I support,” he said. “I am a Nottingham boy, but I didn’t have the best of times there.

I could make excuses and say certain managers didn’t pick me or played me out of position, but I think I have to hold my hands up and say I wasn’t good enough.“

“I don’t think I have anything to prove against them, though. I don’t think I need to go and score five goals against them or anything like that.

“I’ve just got to play my own game.”

He initially joined McCarthy’s side on a free transfer in 2013, shortly after a successful spell at League One side, Coventry City.

His form since from The Tractor boys has been unrecognisable and quickly  became one of the first names on the team-sheet at Portman Road. He has insisted, however, that the move away from his former employers, who currently sit just outside the relegation places in the championship, has seen him become a better player.

(From the Nottingham Post) “Since I left Forest I’ve become a much better player, I’m showing what I can do and I think they all know what a player I should have been when I was there.”
