Mansfield Town have appointed Steve Evans as their new head coach as confirmed by their club website.
The Stags were forced to look for a new boss as their previous one Adam Murray decided to leave the club following a poor 4-0 loss to Portsmouth which saw them drop to 18th place in the Sky Bet League Two. And they haven’t wasted any time as they look to move on from that resignation as they have appointed the controversial Evans as their new boss.
Evans, who will also be joined by his long time assistant Paul Raynor, has gained plenty of experience in the EFL over the last few years. He got Crawley Town promoted into League One many years ago and he gave them the momentum needed to get promoted again before he switched to Rotherham United. While in South Yorkshire he managed to pull off a stunning double promotion which saw them return to the Sky Bet Championship. He would then move to their Yorkshire rivals Leeds United and gave them some much needed stability which kept them in the Championship.
Following the appointment, Mansfield chairman John Radford said: “Steve’s résumé is amongst the best in the English Football League and his appointment underlines the club’s high ambitions.”
