Bircham named QPR first team coach

Boyhood Rangers fan Marc Bircham has been named as QPR’s first team coach and will join Ian Holloway’s backroom staff after Holloway’s appointment as manager, as stated on the club website.

London-born Bircham made over 100 appearances for QPR from 2002 to 2007 and became a fan favourite at Loftus Road. He quickly became popular due to his unusual hairstyles which included a dyed mohawk of blue and white stripes. He also had spells at Millwall and Yeovil Town as well as playing internationally for Canada.

Bircham was a caretaker manager for the Rs in 2009 and was a coach with QPR until 2014 where he joined Holloway as his assistant at Millwall. He also had spells more recently as assistant in USA at Chicago Fire and Arizona United.

Bircham, who began his playing career at Loftus Road aged just 9, is delighted to be returning to the London club and reuniting with Holloway. He said, “It really is a dream come true.”

“QPR are the only club I’d have moved back to England for and the opportunity to work with Ollie again, at the club that we both know inside-out, was just too good to turn down.”

“QPR are my club. I’ve supported Rangers all my life and I couldn’t be happier or more proud to be working alongside Ian, who gave me the best of my professional career here.”

Marc Bircham is the true definition of a club man and will be working hard to get his club back in the Premier League. Holloway will take charge of his first game back at Loftus Road on Saturday against Norwich City with QPR sitting 17th in the table and shall be hoping to climb that table after Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s dismissal.
