Newcastle United are plotting a potential move for Genk’s Wilfred Ndidi according to a report from the Newcastle Chronicle.
The 19-year-old defender is regarded around Europe as a fine prospect for the future and he’s already been showing plenty of that talent this season as he is now an international for Nigeria. His potential has already seen plenty of teams being interested in him with Genk having to turn down an offer of £5m from Hamburg last summer. Scouts from Watford and Tottenham Hotspur have also been watching him play and may follow up their interest soon.
However they will have a tough task keeping Ndidi in Belgium during the upcoming January transfer window as Newcastle have been looking at the defender and are considering making a move. They have been sending scouts across the Northern Sea to watch him and have been impressed with him, especially when he played against Italian side Sassuolo in the Europa League. Now it is up to their head coach Rafa Benitez and the rest of the coaching staff to decide if they want to pursue their interest.
And the Magpies are prepared to splash out on a defender that would hopefully be a key part of their defence for years to come, with them expecting to spend £8m on Ndidi. Newcastle are set to get another huge transfer kitty during the January transfer window and it could get bigger as they are widely expected to get rid of Cheick Tiote, who is currently a huge burden on their wage bill.
