Newcastle United are one of the favourites top sign LA Galaxy’s Steven Gerrard according to odds published by Ladbrokes and reported by the Shields Gazette.
While it has not been confirmed that he will be definitely leaving the MLS side following the end of their season, an Instagram post where Gerrard declared that he will miss Los Angeles has driven up speculation that he will soon be ending his time on the West Coast. This, as you’d expect, has led to many people wondering about where he will be moving and it is widely expected that he will be making a return to the United Kingdom.
While it is Scottish Champions Celtic who are the favourites to sign Gerrard, they are marked as 7/2 due to the good relationship between their head coach Brendan Rodgers and the former England, and his former side Liverpool are priced as 4/1, Newcastle are the third favourite to sign him after being priced as 5/1.
This is due to the current man in charge at Newcastle, Rafa Benitez. The Spaniard was the manager of Liverpool in what was arguably Gerrard’s best period as a player as they sensationally won the Champions league in that historic night in Istanbul and came close to winning the Premier League after finishing in 2nd place. And now that he’s at St James Park, there’s a chance Benitez may be able to persuade him to play for the Magpies in the Sky Bet Championship.
