Tim Sherwood was earlier today appointed as the new director of football at Sky Bet League One side Swindon Town. This was a major surprise in one sense, as he has been linked to several managerial roles in recent times, however he has been friends with chairman Lee Power for over 20 years as well.
Nevertheless, there are mixed views coming from the County Ground terraces regards to this rather spectacular news in the English Football League on a cold Thursday afternoon. Earlier this week, Sherwood was the odds-on favourite to be appointed the manager of Queens Park Rangers, where another of his close friends, Les Ferdinand, serves as director of football.
He has been out of the game since his departure from Aston Villa last season, who would eventually be relegated into the Championship. He says he has received offers to go back into the game, but felt this was a good opportunity with a club he has a ‘soft spot’ for. Sherwood officially has no contract, but he it would appear he is the new manager in everything but name. Luke Williams technically remains as manager, despite Power’s comments.
There were rumours earlier today that Red Bull were supposedly set to takeover the club. News broke yesterday that a ‘significant announcement’ was to be made by the club, leading to a rumour of this coming out. Another was that Power was set to walk out of the club too. Nevertheless, Sherwood enters the building. We took to Twitter to see how this went down.

Very happy with Tim Sherwood's appointment. The club was in serious need of a lift! #stfc

Think a manager/DOF was needed to let Luke concentrate on coaching. Sherwood made good points about experience and over playing #stfc

I'm pleased with the Tim Sherwood news, will be good for LW also to have the heat taken off him. Any #stfc fans not happy?

And if it all goes wrong it's Luke Williams' fault. #stfc https://t.co/x3xvCLMnjR
