Swindon Town make shock director of football appointment

Swindon Town have shocked the EFL by appointing Tim Sherwood as their director of football, as confirmed by their official Twitter account.

When the Robins announced their press conference today, some believed it may be about a potential takeover by sports drink company Red Bull especially when it was shown that cans of the drink were on view on the table at the conference.

However instead it was announced that they will be looking to address their recent poor form by appointing Tim Sherwood as their director of football. Sherwood has been without a job for around a year now after he was sacked by Aston Villa following a poor start to the season and he had been heavily linked to the vacant QPR job over the last week. However when reports said that QPR were more interested in appointing Paul Clement as their head coach, he looked for another role and has got one now that he is the director of football of Swindon.

The Swindon chairman Lee Power revealed at the press conference that he has been a long time friend of Sherwood which helped persuade him to move to the County Ground, with Power saying it was definitely not for the money as he isn’t on a contract. This change means that Sherwood is now in charge of transfers at the club, though it was insisted that current head coach Luke Williams hasn’t had a demotion and he was described as a big asset for the club.
