Another Premier League club enter race for League One star

The Daily Mirror reports that Everton are the latest Premier League club to enter the race to sign highly-rated Charlton Athletic forward Ademola Lookman. The 19-year-old has a string of admirers following his progress, with Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal also said to be interested.

The Addicks rejected attempts from London rivals Crystal Palace on the final day of the previous transfer window to keep the England Under-20 international at The Valley. Russell Slade remains hopeful of keeping the player at the club for this season at least, in the hope he can assist the club bouncing back into the Championship at the first attempt following relegation last season.

Scouts from the major clubs named above all sent scouts to watch the talented individual in action over the weekend as Charlton defeated high-flying Scunthorpe United in the FA Cup 1st Round, a match where Lookman netted twice.

Steve Walsh, the director of football at Goodison Park, first became aware of Lookman’s qualities whilst in a head of recruitment role with current Premier League champions Leicester City. He has since moved to Merseyside and is hoping to bring Lookman up north from the capital as well. It remains to be seen if Everton will make a move in January, and they made have to, as Charlton can expect to receive plenty of interest come January 1st.
