QPR close in on appointment of former Tottenham boss

QPR are closing in on the appointment of Tim Sherwood as their new head coach according to a report from the London Evening Standard.

The R’s are on the lookout for a new boss after they decided to sack Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at the weekend following a poor run of form which culminated in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest. And it seems like they won’t be without a manager for long as this report suggests that they are very close to appointing Sherwood as their next head coach.

It’s all down to the good relationship that QPR’s director of football Les Ferdinand has with Sherwood. Both of them worked together when they were at Tottenham Hotspur’s academy but after years after being together they went their separate ways with Ferdinand moving to QPR while Sherwood would eventually become the head coach of Spurs. They had previously tried to appoint Sherwood after Harry Redknapp left the club when they were in the Premier League but talks broke down due to wage demands.

Sherwood instead decided to go to Aston Villa and while he did have some success in the West Midlands, such as guiding the Villains to the FA Cup final, but things derailed in the following season and he was soon sacked and replaced by Remi Garde.

The appointment of Sherwood wouldn’t just be good for him. Former QPR head coach Chris Ramsey, who is now their head of youth development, would once again return to coaching the senior squad and become Sherwood’s assistant manager should he be appointed.
