Wolves need to be on front foot for Derby County match

Wolves interim head coach Rob Edwards has told the club website that they must be on the front foot for their match against Derby County.

Edwards will be hoping to make a splash in what seems like will be his final game as the manager of Wolves. He took caretaker charge of the club when Walter Zenga was sacked but with the Black County club lining up Paul Lambert as his replacement, this will be the last chance for him to impress. With him being linked to other managerial roles in the EFL, this last game could be a calling card for any club interested in his services.

But he will be facing a revitalised Derby County, who are looking better now that they have got their own new manager as Steve McClaren has now returned as their head coach. And Edwards believes if they want to win this game, they must get on the front foot early.

Edwards said: “I want us to be positive, to enjoy the occasion, I want us to be on the front foot.

“Ideally I’d love us to be playing in their half and we want to be able to dominate that game and get the crowd off their seats with action.”

“I want it to be entertaining. But at the same time make sure we’re right at the other end as well, so staying in the game is really important, and finding the right balance.”

“The players have been excellent. They’ve tried their best to implement one or two new things and another week of the same messages is always going to help.”

“We’ve had a good week and I know they can deliver on the day. I’m expecting improvements from the Blackburn game.”

“We’re at home, which I think does give us that slight advantage. It’s going to be a tough game but I’m really looking forward to it.”

“I’d want to seize the initiative if we were at home or away. But yes, I want to get the fans onside, they’re paying good money to come and see entertaining football so that’s what we’ve got to try and deliver.”
