Former Leeds United striker talks about his time in the Championship

In an interview with the Italian media, former Leeds United star Mirco Antenucci has said that Championship was overly physical.

The 31 year old was released by Leeds in the summer, which bought to an end his two year stay in England.

He returned to his native Italy to join Serie B side SPAL.

Speaking to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, Antenucci was quizzed about his return to his home country, and asked how his time in the second tier of English football was comparable with the second tier of Italian football.

The Italian said that he found the Championship a difficult league to play in as it was extremely physical, and believes there was less of an emphasis on tactics, but more on set pieces.

“The Championship is more hard and more physical, with more restarts and less tactics,” said the former Leeds United star.

He was the top scorer at Leeds during his first season, but this didn’t prevent Antenucci from being released by the club at the end of last season.

He scored a total of 19 goals at the Yorkshire club.

The player has been in excellent form for his new club in recent weeks, including scoring a hat trick in their match on Monday night.
