Preston: Club to investigate coin allegation

Preston are set to investigate the allegation that Newcastle United defender, DeAndre Yedlin was hit with a 20p coin during the respective club’s fixture at the weekend.

The incident, which allegedly occurred towards the end of the match –  happened when the American was receiving treatment for an injury.

The game itself, which was taking place at Preston’s Deepdale ground, was won 2-1 by the visitors – who themselves, moved them three points ahead of second-placed Brighton following their victory over the Lancashire side.

Following the game and the incident in question – Yedlin himself took to social media to offer an ironic joke towards the coin thrower.

Yedlin, who was replaced by former Blackburn defender Grant Hanley following his injury, joined the Tyneside club in the summer for a transfer fee reported to be around the 5 million mark. His transfer to Newcastle came just a few months after he enjoyed a loan spell at their arch rivals, Sunderland.

The 23-year-old began his career at Seattle Sounders in 2013, following a period playing College football.

He then moved to England to link up with Tottenham in 2014 but failed to make a place at White Hart Lane his own.

It was whilst he was a Tottenham player that he was borrowed to Sunderland, before signing for the Magpies permanently in the summer.

A Newcastle spokesperson has confirmed that they will not be taking action against the incident, as no damage was caused to Yedlin himself. Preston, however, have confirmed that they will be taking proceedings forward.

Sky Sports have reported that their sources expect no action to be taken by the football association, despite the seriousness surrounding the allegations.
