Romaine Sawyers dedicates goal to the fans who continued to support him

Brentford’s Romaine Sawyers had told Get West London that he has dedicated his goal against QPR to the fans who supported him after he was booed off at Barnsley.

The Bees took on their fierce West London rivals QPR last night in front of the Sky Sports cameras and they got the bragging rights after winning 2-0. Just before the end of the first half Brentford took the lead when Josh Clarke’s shot managed to worm its way under goalkeeper Alex Smithies and then Sawyers confirmed the win in the second half when he scored a brilliant effort which flew into the top corner.

It’s a superb turnaround for Sawyers, who last week was booed off the pitch after he had a poor performance in the match against Barnsley. But after becoming a hero after sealing a win against one of Brentford’s most hated rivals, he decided to dedicate his goal to the fans who supported him through those hard times.

He said: “I’m sure I’ll have a few Twitter mentions like I had. I’ve had a lot of support during the week from staff, coaches, players and obviously the supportive fans so it’s all been good. It makes it easier to kick on from what happened last week.”

“It was good to get it at that end with the Brentford fans. I owe it to my team mates after what happened last week.”

“They’ve been supportive from the get go. I’ve had texts and conversations with people saying keep going and the gaffer showed his faith in me.”

“It shows the relationship we’ve had for a long time and it’s good to know people are really supportive.”
