Bristol City: Freeman injury will not dictate transfer business – Johnson

Bristol City manager, Lee Johnson, has revealed to the Bristol Post that the extent of the injury to Luke Freeman will not shape how he and the club go about their January transfer business.

Johnson, revealed earlier today that Freeman could be facing up to three months out of action.

The injury was picked up during City’s 1-0 win against Blackburn on Saturday, which forced him to sit out of the EFL cup defeat to Hull City on Tuesday night.

The Bristol City head coach said :”I certainly wouldn’t link those two together because I think we will look in the window anyway.

Luke has done very really for us and it would be horrible to have him out. He’s got so many qualities and this year in the Championship he has been much better. He wasn’t bad last season but he’s really starting to go and affect games.”

Freeman, who joined The Robins from Stevenage in the summer of 2014, has been labelled the ‘assist king’ of the championship.

He began his career at Gillingham in 2007 (now league one), becoming the youngest debutant in their history before signing for Arsenal for an undisclosed fee.

A temporary spell at Yeovil followed before he was eventually sent on a short-term loan to Stevenage in November 2011, becoming a permanent Boro signing the following January.

Having impressed so much in the three years that followed, he signed for City; helping them do the league and cup double in 2015.

The first league game of his absence will begin this weekend when his side face a trip to Johnson’s former club, Barnsley.
