Simon Grayson lavishes praise on Newcastle United

Preston North End head coach Simon Grayson has told the Shields Gazette that Newcastle United are ‘geared for success’ following their 6-0 loss to them last night.

The Lilywhites took on Newcastle in the EFL Cup and while they certainly weren’t the favourites to the win the match, they weren’t expecting to be completely outplayed as they were. The Magpies completely took them apart and it stopped them from extending their run in the EFL Cup and reaching the quarter finals.

It didn’t start off well for Preston when Aleksandar Mitrovic scored on his return to the first team, but things fell apart when Alan Browne was sent off for violent conduct. The Magpies took complete control from there on in and made it look easy as a brace from Mohamed Diame, Matt Ritchie, Ayoze Perez and another from Mitrovic paved their way to a superb 6-0 victory.

And Grayson couldn’t help but praise Newcastle after the match as when he was asked if Newcastle were on another level, he said: “Based on (last night) they certainly are.”

“And when you read reports from the last few games, and when you listen to Mick McCarthy at the weekend, whose team got beat 3-0 with his strongest team, he said anybody who finishes above Newcastle will get promoted.”

“That’s why they have got the players that they’ve got. They’ve got the manager that this time last year was at Real Madrid. That’s why they’ve got the fanatical support they’ve got.”

“It’s a club geared for success. They had a bad year last year. So everyone expected at the start of the season for Newcastle to be up there if not runaway with the league.”
