Rafa Benitez

Rafa can end Magpies’ long wait for silverware

Newcastle United continue their 61 year quest for major domestic silverware this evening when they face SkyBet Championship rivals Preston North End in the Fourth Round of the EFL Cup at St James’ Park.

The Magpies have never won the famous trophy but there is no doubting the fact that manager Rafa Benitez is building something very special on Tyneside.

Newcastle United are top of the SkyBet Championship table after winning all of their last five matches and do not look like giving up that position. Under Spaniard Benitez, The Magpies are finally geared up for success with a world class manager at the helm and the whole club pulling together in the right direction.

What is more pleasing for the ‘Toon Army’ is Benitez’s desire to win a major domestic trophy for the first time since the club’s FA Cup success in 1955. In past years, the cup competitions have been devalued by many a Newcastle United manager with the Premier League being the only real focus and the club’s aim of taking cup competitions more seriously this time round is a breath of fresh air to supporters’ ears.

In Benitez, Newcastle United have a man who is capable of rising to big challenges, building foundations for success and is a born winner and just maybe this can be the year of something very special for the club and their long suffering supporters.
