Monthly award for Championship hot-shot

Bristol City’s on-loan striker Tammy Abraham has been awarded the EFL Young Player of the Month Award for September. Since signing on a season-long loan from Chelsea, the England Under-21 international has netted 11 goals for the Robins.

Players such as Dele Alli, Charlie Austin and Wilfried Zaha, all current  Premier League players, have won such awards during their time in the English Football League in the past. Abraham, who scored twice on his England Under-21 debut recently, is now the first name on Lee Johnson’s team sheet at Ashton Gate.

Abraham, who has made two substitute appearances for the Chelsea first-team against Liverpool and Leicester City in May 2016, expressed his delight at joining the star names who have already received such an accolade,

“I’m very pleased to win this award. When you have a head coach that believes in you and a good crowd supporting you, it gives you so much confidence going into games.

“As soon as I came here I was made to feel welcome and I have a really good bond with the lads. I have a love for the game and always want to do my best.

“I knew what to expect when I came out on loan. It’s very important for my development. The Championship is a hard league and it’s important to have the right mentality.”
