Leeds United: Mixed injury news ahead of EFL Cup tie

Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has confirmed to the Yorkshire Evening Post that Northern Ireland international Stuart Dallas will again miss out in tonight’s EFL Cup tie against Norwich City. In better news, attacking midfielder Pablo Hernandez should return from a dead leg.

Energetic Dallas has sat out the previous three Leeds United games because of a troublesome calf problem. Monk has hinted that he could be back for their clash against Burton Albion in the Championship, but definitely won’t be involved at Elland Road tonight.

On the case of Hernandez, whose injury kept him out of their weekend victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers, there is a ‘good chance’, according to the former Swansea City manager, that Hernandez, on loan from Qatar Stars League side Al-Arabi, should be available for selection.

Monk stated that Dallas wouldn’t play tonight, but hoped he could call upon his creative Spanish midfielder,

“Pablo has a good chance – he’ll be out there training tonight but with Stuey (Dallas) we are hoping for the weekend.”

Leeds will make changes for the EFL Cup tie, just as they have done in previous rounds, but Monk expects Norwich to do the same, but still insists it is a very important game,

“Of course I think both teams will make changes. We will have a good training session tonight, I will have a look at them and make a decision on the team. Whatever team is picked will go out there fully understanding what is expected of them.”
