MK Dons to interview former League One title-winner

The Times reports that Milton Keynes Dons will interview Steve Cotterill over becoming their new manager. The club recently parted company with long-serving manager Karl Robinson, following a disappointment start to life back in League One after relegation from the Championship.

Robinson was the third-longest serving manager in the top four divisions of English football, and chairman Pete Winkelman is now seeking a replacement. Cotterill has been out of work since leaving Bristol City in January, leaving the club in the Championship after winning the League One title the season before.

Cotterill is currently the bookies favourite to succeed Robinson in the Stadium mk hot-seat. The likes of Steve Evans, caretaker manager Richie Barker and youth team coach Mike Dove have also been touted for the role as the Dons look to climb away from the League One relegation places. Following the weekend defeat at home to Southend United, the club were situated just a point above the drop zone.

In total, 52-year-old Cotterill has five promotions on his managerial CV, coming from his spells at Cheltenham Town, Notts County and most recently Bristol City. He started off his managerial career in Ireland with Sligo Rovers. He has also held roles at Stoke City, Burnley, Portsmouth and Nottingham Forest, in addition to being Howard Wilkinson’s assistant manager at Sunderland. He is searching for a way back into football management, and MK Dons could present a realistic opportunity for him to do so.
