International break has helped Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has told the club website that he believes the international break has helped the team.

While the Owls have had a decent start to the season which has seen them get to 9th in the Sky Bet Championship table, some expected a lot more after they narrowly missed out on promotion last season following their play-off final defeat to Hull City. This disappointment was compounded just before the international break when they put up a limp performance in their 2-1 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion, the team they beat in the play-off semi finals last season.

And it only get tougher now they have returned to regular football as they travel to face Huddersfield Town on Sunday. The Terriers have had a brilliant start to the season and have won all five games at home, meaning Wednesday are going to have to be at their very best if they want to get something out of this game.

And Carvalhal believes they will as he believes the team have improved over the international break. He said: “It was an important international break to us, all the time it is important when you play a lot of games that you have this period so you can introduce more things in the training.”

“It’s normal because when you play three games in a short period, a lot of the time you are focused on the recovery.”
“It was good for Daniel Pudil to improve his physical condition, it was important also for Almen to be more integrated into the team, to Buckley, to Reach and to Urby.”
“It’s good to the new players to understand better and better what we want.”
