Phil Brown says who should be the next England manager

Southend United head coach Phil Brown has told the Southend Echo that he believes that Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton should be the next England manager.

England are once again looking for a new manager after they sacked Sam Allardyce following allegations from the Daily Telegraph of malpractice, including given people advice to get around the FA’s third party ownership rules. Currently Gareth Southgate is in charge and is expected to take the role on a full time basis, but there are still discussions going on whether they should go for someone else and keep Southgate in charge of the U21s.

But now Brown has made his recommendation as to who he thinks should be the next England manager and he believes it should be Brighton boss Chris Hughton. As well as having experience with Newcastle United and Birmingham City, Hughton most recently guided the Seagulls to play-of places though they missed out on promotion after losing to Sheffield Wednesday.

Brown said: “Chris Hughton comes to mind for me because of the great job he’s been doing in the English game,”

“He’s a tactician and a technician and he’s been at some big clubs both as a player and as a manager.

“He knows how to deal with the stature of the players but there are a lot of good managers out there.

“Sean Dyche is another one but whoever gets the job has to be squeaky clean and if there are any skeletons in your closest then don’t apply.”
